15 Life Hacks to Make Travel Easier

Posted

By most accounts, the worst part of traveling and/or vacationing is the journey to the destination and the journey home from the destination. Not only do you have to deal with the anticipation of getting there or returning home, but things are often hectic as you do your best to remain organized, not forget anything, and keep good time. Travel does not need to be so complicated though. Here are 15 life hacks that will make travel easier:

  1. If you’re traveling internationally, always make sure to contact your financial institutions before traveling in order to ensure you’ll be able to make purchases abroad.
  2. Have you ever walked up to baggage check with a recently purchased water bottle and been forced to throw it away? Next time, just bring an empty water bottle and fill it up once you pass through security.
  3. When packing your suitcase, roll your clothing to save space and avoid wrinkles.
  4. Put your shoes in shower caps to prevent them from touching your clothes.
  5. Stick a dryer sheet in your suitcase to keep them smelling fresh.
  6. Roll up your belt and put in the collar of your button up shirt to keep it from folding over and wrinkling.
  7. Make a physical copy of your ID and/or passport and also email yourself a digital copy in the event of loss or theft.
  8. To prevent your toiletries from leaking in your bags, place plastic wrap over the top of the container and then put the cap on over the plastic wrap.
  9. Use an old glasses case for your cords and chargers.
  10. Download some travel apps before traveling. Apps like Grab, Velocity, and Vacasa can all save you money on everything from meals to rooms.
  11. Don’t wait to book your travel or you’ll inevitably spend more. If you know you’re going on a vacation and you know when and where, make the necessary booking for accommodations asap.
  12. Pack as light as possible when flying, because you’ll inevitably spend more for all those extra shirts and shoes you don’t need.
  13. Research your destination ahead of time and establish a framework for an itinerary so you can maximize your time on vacation.
  14. Make sure to get a tune-up for your car if you’ll be traveling any long distances on the road.
  15. Always arrive early when flying. It might be a full parking lot, long lines at security, an oversold flight, or a host of other variables that could force you to miss your flight.
